Tunamaya Beach Club
The Tunamaya Beach Bar is conceived as a pivotal spatial anchor within the resort, positioned centrally between the built environment and the open sea. Drawing inspiration from the coastal bay condition—where land, wind, and waves converge—the architecture captures a sense of kinetic energy, transforming natural forces into a vibrant social setting defined by movement, light, and atmosphere.
The design is organised around a centralised composition, structured through a radial geometry anchored by a circular water body. This reflective basin forms the heart of the project, acting as both landscape and stage. When required, the water is drained to reveal a performance platform, allowing the space to transform seamlessly into an open-air venue for music, events, and gatherings. This adaptability reinforces the Beach Club as a dynamic spatial field rather than a fixed programmatic object.
Expansive, full-height openings dissolve the boundary between interior and seascape, framing uninterrupted views of the horizon while allowing sea breezes to permeate the space. The architectural envelope is deliberately loosened from the structural frame, creating a shaded promenade that encourages continuous movement and enhances natural cross-ventilation. The result is an interior that remains open, breathable, and constantly connected to its coastal context.
The structural expression draws subtle reference from coastal vegetation, where slender vertical elements provide rhythm, shade, and spatial depth. These elements extend beyond function, shaping a layered environment where light filters through in shifting patterns, enhancing the sensory quality of the space and offering moments of intimacy within an otherwise open composition.
Sustainability is embedded as an integral design strategy rather than an additive feature. The roof is designed to support rainwater harvesting and photovoltaic integration, transforming the building into a self-sustaining system that responds intelligently to its environment. These measures reinforce the resort’s commitment to ecological awareness while supporting long-term operational efficiency.
The result is a finely balanced architectural intervention—at once lively and contemplative, engineered and atmospheric. Tunamaya Beach Bar becomes more than a hospitality venue; it is a crafted coastal experience where architecture, landscape, and climate converge to create a seamless celebration of place.
